On the Passing of Marilyn Kutz

Published on 7/6/2021

Marilyn J. Kutz

Kingston - Our mother, sister, aunt, grandma and great grandma, passed away on July 6, 2021 at the age of 90, in Silverdale,WA, due to severe health related complications.

Marilyn was born September 17, 1930 to Kermit and Ruth Williams Heinisch in Portland, Ore. She attended grade school in Kellerton, Iowa and high school in Seattle and Bainbridge Island (Class of 1949) where she met her husband Ronald. In 1948, they were married and spent 54 wonderful years together, until his death in 2002.

They raised their three children on Bainbridge Island until 1963, when they moved to Juneau, Alaska, when Ron went to work with the Alaska State Ferries and became a Captain. During their time in Juneau, they built two beautiful homes and made hundreds of Alaskan friends. Some of their best life memories were their times in Juneau. In 1975 they moved to Kingston, WA, to prepare for retirement in their waterfront home on the shores of Puget Sound. They loved boating and spent many summers cruising between Puget Sound and Southeast Alaska. They also enjoyed traveling around the country in their RV eventually buying a home in Arizona and became Snow Birds.

Marilyn was a life member of the Kingston Cove Yacht Club, a member of the Kingston Garden Club, Kingston Red Hats, and active with Kingston Seniors. She loved to paint, garden and entertain family and friends, in her waterfront-view home. She was also the best cook!! Many of her recipes appear in the Kingston Cove Yacht Club cook books and in our family's recipe boxes. She loved her poodles dearly, spoiling four different ones, over the years and, also her cat Zoey. Even at 90, Marilyn never forgot a birthday or Anniversary. She always reminded us of whose Birthday it may have been and always sent out various greeting cards.

Marilyn's survivors include son David J. Kutz (Janice) of Kingston, WA, daughters, Patricia E. Stoll of Poulsbo, WA, and Kerilee R. Kutz Vester (Barry) of Grapeview, WA. Grandchildren Denise Kutz Bettge (Derek), Cindee Kutz Jones (Chad), Aaron Stoll, Megan Stoll, Joshua Vester, and Carly Vester and five great grandchildren Andrew, Jenna, Henry, and Harper and Amelia. Survivors also include her brother Michael P. Sawyer and many nieces and nephews.

Internment, with immediate family, will be held at the Kane Cemetery, Port Madison on Bainbridge Island, on her birthday, September 17, 2021. There will be a Celebration of Life, with a gathering of family and friends, on September 18, 2021 from 1pm – 4pm at the Kingston Cove Yacht Club in Kingston.

Special Note: Events and dates subject to current state or federal COVID-19 recommendations or requirements, including vaccinations and/or masking required for attendees.

The family has requested donations be made to the Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society, (P.O. Box 9731, Seattle, WA 98109-9731), or to PAWS of Bainbridge Island/North Kitsap (pawsbink.org).
