What's Happening—Club Events

Look Who's Celebrating

On the Passing of Cheryl Graham

It is with great sorrow that we must announce that we have lost Cheryl Graham, an ever-present and contributing KCYC member and friend to so many. She passed last night at home with Rick and daughter Stephanie at her side.

We will always remember Cheryl for her Christmas stockings project and the many events that she hosted, preparing her special brand of cuisine and paying attention to every detail. We will be celebrating her life in the near future at KCYC giving us all a chance to share stories and provide Rick with love and comfort. Rick and Stephanie are grieving in private at this time and ask for your patience.

Cheryl was a very giving, loving friend always offering to help. We will all miss her greatly.

Sunshine & Clouds

• Jimmie James is also battling cancer and our thoughts and prayers go out to Jimmie and Mary McClure.
• Our Fleet Captain Sandy Dalgleish has just had foot surgery and we wish her a speedy recovery.

Commodore's Corner—Ken Dalgleish

Happy New Year! What an amazing Speakeasy New Year’s party. Many thanks to Beth Nelson and her family for a great entry into KCYC’s 2020. As Beth steps down from a successful social contribution to the club to focus on her family, please join me in expressing our gratitude for the many great memories we were provided in this past year.

Shelley Gantz has accepted the position of Social Director for KCYC 2020!  Under Shelley’s leadership and supported by her husband John Gantz as well as our many great contributors, this will prove to be another exciting and fun filled year.

At our upcoming January General Meeting we will be presenting the KCYC budget and the 3 year strategic plan for approval. Thanks to the hard work of many previous boards, we have a very stable base and are in a great position to launch into this exciting year. Membership growth, KCYC long range vision, 2020 facility renewal, exciting cruise and social schedules and expanded community involvement are but a few of the fun opportunities on the horizon.

Our guest speaker will be Greg Englin, Executive Director of the Port of Kingston. Greg will be discussing the focus of the Port for this coming year. Don’t miss this opportunity to meet and interact with Greg.

Lastly, a heart filled thanks to the many volunteers that have made KCYC such a success in 2019. Your many contributions have made a big difference. Opportunities to make a difference in 2020 abound. Just contact any club board member and we will be happy to connect your energy with opportunity.

Membership Renewal Update—Jack Lott

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season this year. The Club was jumping and with your support, we’ve got a great start on 2020’s finances. As of January 4th, 60% of our projected dues revenue is in the bank. That’s a great start. There are about 30 more “households” yet to pay, which is right on target. Thank you again.

All of you that have paid through January 4th, your membership cards have been mailed. If you don’t get yours, please let me know so I can follow up and get that taken care of. A second mailing of membership cards will go out at the end of this month for those that pay in January, and a final mailing of membership cards will go out February 29th. Per our bylaws, after that date, your membership will have expired. Don’t let that happen, we need you.

We’ve also made great strides in preparing our 2020 budget. Some fine tuning yet to be done, with the goal of rolling it out for you to review at this coming General Meeting. It will show that, with the changes in our dues structure, we have a much better foundation to address updates for the Clubhouse, and contingencies to handle repairs and replacement of equipment as needed.

Social Events for 2020....Volunteer to Join the Committee

As you can tell from the website calendar there are plenty of social events scheduled for the short term – line dancing this month on the 31st , the Academy Awards on February 9th, Whiskey Tasting and Saint Patty’s Day on March 9th and 13th respectively. For that matter, since many of you will be going over without boats, you might also consider the Polar Bear Cruise at least a partially land-based event.
And this doesn’t even count Seahawks playoff games!

Beyond that, we are in still in the planning phase, looking for the right dates for traditional events, like the Ladies Luncheon and cementing plans and responsibilities for July 4th, and considering various other potential events from a country music hoe-down, a steak-and-bake, solstice party, second annual pic roast and more.

This planning will begin with a brainstorming session on January 14th where we have tapped a subset of the board to give us guidance and well-earned wisdom as we firm up the rest of the 2020 social calendar.  In the meantime, we are still building out the social events committee – the group that will help plan events, recruit volunteers, and perhaps even organize some events. So, if you are interested please contact me at shelleygantz@gmail.com or 508-397-3082.

 PAST EVENTS

KCYC Christmas Celebrations

This year, like always, we had an extremely busy club calendar, filled with many holiday celebrations.  It started with decorating the clubhouse, and was quickly followed by the Boat Light Decorating Contest, the caroling at the park, and the Chowder Feed.  For those of you who didn't hear, Joseph Charnes again won the boat decorating contest, with Jamie & Noelle Hunter and Mike & Lori Prestly also getting awards.  The chowder contest was won by Kim Clark, serving the Kingston Ale House's prize chowder.  The following week found us again at the clubhouse, this time exchanging presents with all the club members. This year saw a large number of alcoholic presents, which were warmly received by all who attended.  And the finale of the year's Christmas events was the holiday sing-along at D'vine Wines.  Check out all the photos!!! A great time was had by all! And many thanks to all who helped.

A Message from Gloria Young About Kingston Cove Christmas

A huge THANK YOU to all who donated cookies for the Kingston Cove Christmas!!!!!  We had enough cookies for all of the excited children & we were able to put together a platter of cookies for the Firemen of NKFR & the Port of Kingston staff. The Kingston High Interact Club volunteered their time as Santa’s elves passing out cookies & hot chocolate to the children.  Thank you all for your generosity, we so appreciate it!!!
