December New Member Applicants

Karen Powers lives in Hansville, having just moved from the gulf coast of Florida. Karen raised her children and raised teen-age foster girls for 20 years. Her husband passed in 1993 and she spent several years in Seattle as a granny-nanny for her grandchildren. When one of Karen's children moved to Florida, she decided to follow. During her years in Hoquim, Karen and her husband invested in fixer-uppers and rental properties. While she was in Florida, Karen used her "handi-mom" skills to help her friends and family. Karen is looking forward to being part of the KCYC and working in community service activities.

Commodore's Corner—Ken Dalgleish

2018/2019 was a great year for the club. We have celebrated our 50th year, established prudent financial contingencies, and reworked our dues structure. During this entire time we had a very successful social and cruising calendar of events. Thanks to all who made this a remarkable year.
With this foundation of success, the new Board of Trustees and the Volunteers that support the club for the 2019/2020 year are working toward a very exciting and fun year for you. In support of this, the Board is required to submit a three year plan and annual budget at our January General Meeting. This will be a great opportunity for you to see and engage in the focus of the club.

The committee structure of the club supports every aspect of the club. For 2019/2020 the structure is pictured below.

Board of Trustees
Commodore – Ken Dalgleish
Vice Commodore – Art Hammon
Rear Commodore – Jerry Andrews
Fleet Captain – Sandi Dalgleish
Treasurer—Jack Lott
Secretary – Diane Nunez
Trustee – Steve Young
Trustee – Rick Eveleth
Past Commodore – Nancy Langwith
Key Volunteer Roles
Quartermaster – John Gantz
Ship’s Store – Linda MacEllven
Social Director – Shelley Gantz
Webmaster – Julie Turner
Communications Officer — Robin Lott

To be successful, we always need your participation for the committees, Friday night socials, and the major events. Please let the various committee leads know if you would like to help. I am sure they will be “reaching out to you”! In addition to your participation, there are still Key Volunteer positions that need to be filled. They are:
Volunteer Coordinator – contact Ken Dalgleish
Charity Coordinator – contact Nancy Langwith
Bartenders & Bar Advisory Committee – Contact Jerry Andrews

While we do not have a General Meeting in December, there is plenty to be involved in. The KCYC tree decorating and cookie exchange, Kingston Cove Christmas, KCYC traditional gift exchange, d Vine wines sing-a-long, and a fabulous New Years Eve event to name a few. Details are available on our website, KCYC.org.

I hope the season brings you special moments with your family and friends, memories that warm your heart, and blessings beyond your dreams.

An Update on Membership Renewals—Jack Lott

If you had a family membership and paid your dues from this last June through December of this year, you should have gotten a reminder notice that your dues need to be paid for this coming year, covering your membership from January 1st to December 31st of 2020. If yes, that’s great! If not, well, maybe someone else in your family received the reminder.

In the membership database maintained in our new website for family memberships, there is one person designated as a “Primary” member, with the other person(s) in your membership account identified as family members. To cut down on duplicate communications, some emails sent from our website only go to the primary member, which is the case for dues reminders.

We can change who should receive dues reminders, registration confirmations for events and other types of notices by knowing who in the family always checks their emails. Just let us know, and we’ll change the settings.

In the past, there has always been an announcement for who renews first each year, sort of a competition. With the changes we’ve made to our fiscal year for dues and other aspects of the Club, going forward that tradition will not really work any longer. But we would most certainly like to acknowledge renewing members for their continuing support. So I will be publishing a report for how many did renew during November and again in December. I would like suggestions as to how to recognize the first, and for that matter, every member that renews on or before the first of the year. Just drop me a note with your ideas.

Remember you can now choose monthly installments for your dues payments processed through a credit card you can enter on your profile page. There is no additional service charge for this, and all of your information is completely secure and private, no one can access it except you.

As always, feel free to contact me directly if you have any questions about dues payments at treasurer@kcyc.org.

On the Passing of Tom Tearnen (1954 - 2019)

It is with great sadness that we announce that Thomas Tearnen passed away on November 24thafter a long struggle with respiratory disease. Tom was a member of the Kingston Cove Yacht Club forseveral years, a past member of the Sail Kingston Cove Board and a Kingston Chamber volunteer. He was very active in the community, donating his services, helping others and spreading love and joy throughout Kingston. You would often see him as the “bouncer” at the Wine Walk and the July 4thspirits tent, and always with a joke, a story and a big smile. He will be missed.

KCYC Christmas Gift Exchange

An annual tradition, hosted by the Commodore and always a lot of fun!  Bring a wrapped gift valued from "laughs only" to $25 to put under the KCYC Christmas tree and hope to draw a good number to make a great selection.  If it's a really good gift, you might not get to hang on to it!

Bring one gift for each person attending, not one per couple.

Last year, both groups upped their game with holiday attire and some advance planning. Add in the awesome wine selection and the evening is all-round holiday fun. Come join in!

Looking forward to 2020!

Friday night activities will continue in 2020. There are a couple of things happening during the first few months of the year that are noteworthy.

The whisky tasting that was cancelled in October, an all male planned and executed evening of food and drink, has been rescheduled (date to be announced); and there will be an academy Award party on February 9th ( Sunday is the new Friday that week) so plan on walking the red carpet.

We are always looking for ideas and hosts. Anyone who has something they would like to host should contact kimpage 827@gmail.com.

PAST EVENTS

Most Successful Food Drive in Recent Years

Thanks to all of our generous members that helped to make this year the most successful food drive in recent years.  We hauled a truck-full of food to the Kingston Food Bank and presented Barb Fulton with a check for $750 to buy fresh meat and vegetables. Barb was overwhelmed with gratitude and responded with a tearful thank you and a big hug.  The stockings will be delivered this week assuring that all of her young clients will have presents under the tree.

Christmas Stockings Overflowing

A huge thank you goes out to all KCYC members who contributed over $500 towards the Christmas stockings for Kingston’s homeless children!!!!! This year there were seven children between the ages of 8 and 16 (4 girls & 3 boys). Nancy Martin sewed the stockings, Robin Lott decorated them and Steve Young, Kim Page and Rita Osborn helped me shop for the items. They will be delivered to the Food Bank this week.

Cheryl Graham started this project six years ago and the Food Bank is very appreciative of our efforts!  Thank you to all who made this happen! Gloria Young
